Nigerian e-commerce platform PayPorte announced the launch of its new website. The news comes months after the online shopping portal abruptly closed its old site.

The new website launched this week and features a unique and contemporary design. As the platform said last year, the new website is strictly focused on marketing its fashion accessories and products.

According to PayPorte CEO Eyo Bassey, the new website has been completely redesigned based on customer feedback and offers an improved shopping experience.

We are excited about our newly redesigned website, which is much more improved than the updated version of the old site released last year. We believe the new site will provide a better shopping experience for our customers while continuing to provide them with premium products that meet their fashion and lifestyle needs.

Has PayPorte come out of the troubled waters?

Last year, the e-commerce company suffered a series of setbacks. Former staff alleged the company had not paid their salaries since November 2017. Comedian DeeOne has also gone public to demand the repayment of a debt the company owed him. There was speculation the company may have gone bankrupt after sponsoring the third edition of the Big Brother Naija show.

Although PayPorte denied these allegations, the platform closed its website shortly after. At the end of last year, the company also stopped selling products such as phones or books, sticking to fashion items and accessories. This, the CEO told Technical point, was a necessary step towards the overhaul of its activity.

But when relaunched, Bassey said the shutdown was simply the result of strategic business decisions to improve the website. He also noted that the platform has partnered with the world’s top fashion brands to stock new products.

This rebirth indicates that the platform may have passed its troubled days. We just have to wait and see what happens to the former e-commerce giant and it said earlier plans to have dedicated stores for its other products.
