New CPUC rules may
solar energy price
Utilities are asking us once again to save electricity during this heatwave to avoid blackouts. This is precisely why I want to go solar and also reduce our electricity bills. We do not know that this option may be in play.
The California policy called net metering allows residents to use the sun and solar panels to generate electricity and to receive a credit on our bill for the excess electricity we generate. Net metering has made solar power more affordable than ever.
But now the California Public Utilities Commission Considering New Net Metering Rules which could deprive future users of the advantage and deprive new customers of solar energy. The result would leave Californians completely dependent on utility companies for their energy needs and vulnerable to more blackouts. More people should know about this, especially if they are considering switching to solar power like us.

Police surveillance has
a helping hand in San Leandro
Last week, San Leandro City Council demonstrated its commitment to establishing an effective civilian police review process for our city by increasing the budget allocation for fiscal year 21/22 by $ 100,000.
The board deserves thanks and appreciation for this show of support for this much-needed reform that can enhance police accountability and provide meaningful community contribution to policing policies and practices, while promoting public safety and strengthening trust between the police and the community they serve.
The additional funds are expected to allow an independent police controller to be on board early next year and provide essential training, staff support and legal advice to a representative community police review board.
A specific proposal for public comments and contributions is expected in the coming months, with the adoption of an ordinance expected in September.

“Democratic vision”
failed in the past
In “Democrats Must Act To Move The Country Forward” (Letters to the Editor, page A6, July 8) Jon James says the current bipartisan infrastructure deal represents a symbolic moment for the party’s vision, ideas and economic and social progress mantle of leadership in opposition to the “No Party”.
The vision party should see history to see the failure of the Vietnam-Great Society vision. If only the “no” had prevailed since 1965, our country would be much better off today.
Biden’s infrastructure plan involves conditional social spending. Obama’s vision of “out-of-the-box programs” did not materialize despite massive spending. Excuse me for doubting the Democratic vision.

Feinstein is not serious
on voters’ rights
I would hate to think our Senior US Senator is for voter suppression, but Senator Dianne Feinstein’s recent statement to Forbes makes me wonder: “If democracy was in danger, I would like to protect it” but “I don’t see that it is in danger right now. “
Voting rights are not threatened for millionaires in San Francisco. The same is not true of the working class and people of color in other states where Republicans restrict access to the ballot box. These new Jim Crow laws are spreading everywhere from Georgia to Texas.
Either Senator Feinstein is too senile to see it and should resign, or she is a white supremacist and should resign. The only way that will not leave a stain on her heritage is for her to call for the end of the obstruction and the passage of the People’s Law.

Trump should kiss
advocate for vaccines
Former President Trump’s greatest achievement, according to Marc Theissen, was Warp Speed, and President Biden must acknowledge this to encourage vaccinations among Trump supporters (“If Biden Wants to Increase Vaccinations, Credit Trump”, page A7, July 8).
While this was indeed Trump’s greatest achievement, Trump apparently struggled to take credit for it (and for the viability of vaccines) because he and Melania were secretly vaccinated in the White House. in January before leaving their post.
I don’t agree that it’s Biden’s or the incumbent’s responsibility to convince Americans to get vaccinated. It has to be done by the one we all know who has the most direct impact on his supporters – Donald Trump.
If this was indeed such a great accomplishment, why isn’t Trump running a public campaign encouraging his supporters to get vaccinated?
Biden does a lot to encourage vaccinations. You don’t have to bow to Trump. All other living presidents have already campaigned for vaccination. Why didn’t Trump do it?
